Inaugural Sovereign Challenge 2023
The inaugural Sovereign Challenge was held yesterday. What a great day. Sunny 23 degrees, blue skies and a steady breeze.
Morning tea was 5 or six different offerings - a sugar fix of immense proportions.
22 competitors came to the Sovereign Lake venue around 8.30am, rigged their boats , and checked settings in readiness for the Sovereign Challenge practice regatta.
We had 5 volunteer race officers:
Dean Horton - course setting and course board
Don Horton - handicap board and course board
John Campbell - score recording
John McLachlan - scorer
Ross Brown - observer
Russell - PRO
Thanks to the volunteers the day went very smoothly. Scores were updated regularly, courses, and handicaps changed quickly.
The first race started at 10am on schedule and by lunch time 10 races had been completed. The final 2 races were held after lunch and trophy presentation took place early afternoon.
Everyone was a winner. How lucky are we to live in Australia, in Brisbane and spend Tuesday mornings in such beautiful surroundings with a fun bunch of people. I think we have all won the lottery of life.
Speaking of winners we had 10 individual race winners. Says a lot for our training course "Beginners to Winners". I was impressed with the standard of competition, and the good "on course" communication.
There was only one retirement due to gear failure. Testament to your boat preparation and maintenance. Keep up the good work in this area.
Congratulations to the 3 placegetters
1st Place - Gary Earl
2nd Place - Terry Jordan
3rd Place - Sel McLennan
Thanks to everyone for making it a day to remember.
Cheers
Russell & Don
